Hello Everyone-
I, Jessica, am running for President and Vice President this year because thanks to everyone's support, I have been given the opportunity to work for the kendo club as an exec for two years, and I feel that it is important for me to continue on the hard work from our past presidents. Our club has grown so much since I began and it is amazing how there has been so much change in just the few years I have been a York Kendoka.

Even more important to me is to give back to my kendoka who have supported me as a York member, especially recently. Regardless if I need surgery or not (which won't happen in at least the next year because of how it will interrupt school), coming back to kendo practices has been an upward struggle- however for my own health I WILL be coming back and slowly working up to where I was. I sincerely miss practicing with you all in bogu, and my goal is to be back in bogu this summer.

Aside, there are a few goals I have for York Kendo.
#1. Solving the spacing issue. I will share my idea for the sake of the club- doing regular weekly bookings for extra space. Deyana and the team has been doing an amazing job getting bigger spaces like Field House- I want extra space for the times when we have Studio 6- but hopefully with hard work we will simply always get a bigger space. I have met Natalie and Peter from Tait, who are bit-by-bit understanding more of the needs of kendo due to its nature which I would personally like to continue to build upon. We've had this issue for years now, it really needs to be handled as a priority.

2. More formal events. I would like the Kendo Club to have more formally organized events for members so that club bonding can be encouraged. Feedback is essential, especially from senpai as with their busy lives, it's hard to see them often and it would be great to see them more! I'd like to have an event (one planned plenty in advance, such as an all day picnic) focused on accommodating the Alumni if they feel it is suitable.

3. A more formal time to teach beginners etiquette, kata, and equipment care. I'd like to have a stricter guideline to adhere to so that planning for beginners' grading and the InterU will have our beginners more thoroughly prepared. Our beginners are talented, but sometimes planning between tournaments can be difficult and I feel a set timeline would help.

4. Most important, I want every member to feel involved with the club, whether if that is through just the practices we offer, tournaments, to being more informed with to what is happening in the Kendo community. Every member is important, and personally I feel that is significant.

I would love to serve York Kendo in any way I can, so please vote for me!
And in general, VOTE!!! This is your chance to be involved in the club and have your say.
