Tournament Results, and Moving Forward to 2013!

Great tournament guys and girls! Thank you for your help and support! I am sure we made a good impression on everyone attending, and raised the standard of tournament hosting for the next university club (sucks for Western next year). 3rd place in basic skills division are Leo, Limo, and Luang! 1st place Mudansha is Junsung An! Finally, but certainly not the least, is Chiho Seok who came in 1st place in the Opens Division. Great job all the winners, and all the York participants. There were a lot of close matches, I am sure with some more practice, we will be able to win more medals next time...though 5 is not a bad number!! YAY :D:D

On the other hand, there were several issues that had nothing to do on our side, but everything to do with the Tait McKenzie Centre. It is utterly ridiculous how inefficient and disorganized they are which made US look bad, and so I sent them a particularly scathing e-mail, and forwarded it to some heads...so the worst that could happen is that we would be out of practice for a little while if they cannot shut us up to save themselves. On the other hand, we may get better benefits...Just letting everyone know in advance of bad news, but I am hoping it will be only good....

BUT in the meantime, some important things to discuss. This WEDNESDAY we will have the BEGINNER'S GRADING. This will consist of the same routine as at the tournament, you all should be familiar with it. Maybe we will spice things up by changing the order, so you actually to have to pay attention to the announcer :) It cannot be too easy after all. Those who pass 2 levels (4th Kyu) will receive permission to wear bogu at their convenience. Those who only pass 5th kyu, will be able to attend another grading, to be held in the summer. Those who do not pass....will have to show up to a lot more practices.

Also, the University of Toronto Annual Tournament is on MARCH 16TH, 2013. The registration deadline is on February 15, 2013. We will not sign up anyone who has not paid in advance of this date. That means, no money = no tournament. Last time, about 5 people dropped out without paying, and we lost a couple hundred dollars which we have still not recovered. It is not fair that our hard-earned money to be used for our club members, goes towards covering other people's laziness and disorganization. (I am still very angry about the Tait issue, and so will be very unforgiving for the next few days...). More details, please come to practice and talk to me!

As we all know, Chinese New Year is coming up! Just after, York University has a reading week from February 16-22. What does this mean to us? IT MEANS WE PARTY! More details will be up soon, but make some space in your calendar for Kendo. We promise it will be more exciting than your textbooks :)

By the way, just putting it out there that we will have ELECTIONS around March/April, so if you would like to play a bigger role in the club (comes with naturally better Kendo skill as a bonus), or know someone who will be good, forward us your nominations soon. Further announcements will be made closer to the date! Cheers :)
